Court of Appeal dismisses Saraki's appeal

The Abuja division of the court of Appeal has dismissed the appeal filed by senate president, Bukola Saraki challenging his trial by the Code of Conduct Tribunal. The appeal court dismissed all 5 issues raised by Saraki in the appeal. Two of the three panel of judges ruled that his appeal lacks merit. This implies that the Code of Conduct will still go ahead with Saraki's trial.

Saraki is being tried on a 13 count charge of false asset declaration when he was Kwara state governor. He is expected to appear before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on November 5th.

23yr old Nigerian who was shot & killed by his colleague in Atlanta, laid to rest

On Saturday, October 24, Emmanuel Chukwudi Nwankwo was laid to rest at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens after a celebration of life service.

According to Atlanta Police, the 23-year-old security guard was shot and killed by his co-worker Dexter Harper (right), another security guard while at work on Thursday October 1, in Buckhead, Atlanta Georgia. Dexter admitted not just to the killing, but to seeing a demon and hearing the voice of God before he opened fire on Emmanuel. Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said 26-year-old Harper was charged with murder and taken to the Fulton County Jail.

Amaechi's confirmation: APC is engaging in a pretentious war against corruption - PDP

The PDP says that the confirmation of former Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi as a minster of the federal republic of Nigeria, has put a dent on APC's “pretentious war against corruption”. The National Publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh said this after an extraordinary meeting with top PDP officials in Abuja yesterday night.

While addressing newsmen after the meeting, Olisa commended PDP senators for staging a walkout before Amaechi's confirmation. "We salute the courage and unity of purpose of our Senators, especially as demonstrated in the Senate chambers today in their collective stand against impunity and corruption in line with the wishes and aspirations of Nigerians”.

Maria Ekanem sold her two week old baby to an Abuja-based woman for N20,000. According to a report by Vanguard, the 20-year-old school drop out from Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, was arrested by the police along with her accomplices. 
 
Her boyfriend got her pregnant and asked her to abort the baby. However, a doctor agreed to help her with free antenatal care and food and in exchange she agreed to sell her baby after delivery.

Edwin Clark claims Reuben Abati sabotaged Jonathan

Notable Ijaw leader Chief Edwin Clark has accused former Spokesperson to former President Jonathan, Reuben Abati, of sabotaging his efforts while he was in office. Clarke said this in response to Abati's article in which he accused Clark of not recognizing Jonathan as a "son" anymore because he was out of office. In an email sent to Premiumtimes, Clarke said 
"My advice that a publicity committee made up of eminent journalists be put in place in Aso Rock and that media proprietors and senior journalists should be invited to Aso Rock were jettisoned by Abati because of what I suppose is his covetousness, particularly when many journalists and media houses always complained to me that he was not carrying them along.

Akure Court jails guard for raping 9 year old girl

An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court today October 25th sentenced a security guard, Onoja Abel, to seven years imprisonment for raping a nine-year-old girl. Abel had lured the girl into his room and raped her three times, between September to October 2015.

The Chief Magistrate sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to rape and assault to five years imprisonment for unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl + 2 years imprisonment for indecent assault without an option of fine, with hard labour and to run concurrently.

Bacon, ham & sausage - set to be classed alongside cigarettes as cancer-causing

According to the World Health Organization, Processed meats such as bacon and ham do cause cancer. 50g of processed meat a day now increases the chance of developing colorectal cancer by 18%. The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) has warned for a number of years that there is 'strong evidence' that eating a ridiculous amount of red meat can cause bowel cancer. Meat does have health benefits.

Red meat for instance is a good source of protein and provides vitamins and minerals, such as iron and zinc. However, Processed meats which have been modified (smoked, or salted for preservation), either to increase shelf-life or alter flavour are the problem. These additions increase the risk of cancer benefits.

Saudi man divorces wife two days after marriage, says she is the source of badluck

The superstitious man divorced his wife two days after their marriage, claiming she brought bad luck.
According to Gulf News, the man reportedly said that he thought something was wrong with his bride after witnessing a series of incidents.

He claimed that on their first day together, the curtains of the flat where they went to spend their honeymoon came down on the floor and the waiter who was serving them when they went out for their first dinner slipped and fell.

 

Man beat up ex-girlfriend in front of his children, then left her for dead for two days

A 36 year old man, Daniel Moore beat up his ex-girlfriend till she was unconscious in front of his children then left her for dead on his couch for two days.
Bank worker Colleen Higgins was left in a coma with horrendous injuries including a broken cheek and a skull fractured from one side to the other.
Moore didn't call an ambulance while she was in a coma and told Colleen she'd fallen down the stairs when she eventually came round.
Colleen only realised how badly she was hurt when she took a selfie on her phone and frantically called her mum who rushed her to the emergency room.

President Buhari to leave for India on Tuesday

President Buhari will leave Abuja on Tuesday October 27th for New Delhi, India to participate in the 3rd Summit of the India-Africa Forum, a platform set up for the advancement of mutually-beneficial relations between India and African nations.

President Buhari will be accompanied by the Governors of Kano and Delta States, the National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd.) and the Permanent Secretaries in the Ministries of Defence, Power, Communications Technology, Agriculture, Foreign Affairs and Industry, Trade and Investment. He is expected back to the country on October 30th.

Feminist writer says Caitlyn Jenner and other transgender women are not women

Germaine Greer, the second-wave feminist best known for her 1970 book The Female Eunuch, accused Caitlyn Jenner of “stealing the limelight” from the other women of the Kardashian clan in an appearance on BBC2’s Newsnight.

What is wrong with these people sef? Some pro-Biafra activists shared videos of themselves tearing their Nigerian passport, denouncing their citizenship and asking for the breakaway of the South-East from Nigeria. They will make a long anti-Nigeria speech and then tear pages from their passports

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Immigration Service has warned that tearing your passport in such a manner is illegal, a crime and attracts a jail term. But most of the people who have so far shared videos of themselves tearing their passports live abroad. I wonder how they plan to travel around now.

Dieziani is facing money laundering charges in the UK. In a media parley over the weekend, Udeng said that the recent arrest of Dieziani by the British police has shown that president Buhari's anti-corruption campaign is targeted at the Ijaws.

UK Govt refuses Islamic group planning permission to build Britain's largest mosque

An Islamic group called Tablighi Jamaat has been refused plans to build what would have been Britain's largest mosque. The so-called 'megamosque' in east London would have housed more than 11,000 people in a number of prayer rooms and halls.

If granted permission, the mosque, which would have been close to the Olympic Park, would have had three times the floor space of St Paul's Cathedral and 190-ft minarets.

Two survivors of the tragic incident that saw a Bristow helicopter crash into the lagoon in Oworonshoki, Lagos on Wednesday 12th August, 2015 have testified that it was 'God's hand' that saved them from certain death. On Sunday 25th October, oil workers Chukwudi Onah and Dolu Ebiejuara appeared in the church of controversial Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua to thank God for preserving their lives in the disaster that led to six fatalities, including that of the pilot and co-pilot.

FG files money laundering charge against former NSA Sambo Dasuki

Delta election tribunal dismisses Labour Party petition, orders party to pay N50k to governor

The Delta state governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Asaba has upheld the April 11th election of the state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and thrown out the petition filed before it by the Labour Party candidate, Great Ogboru. In its ruling, the tribunal ordered the Labour Party to pay N50,000 each to the governor, his party which is PDP and INEC. The tribunal is about now hearing the petition from APC candidate, Otega Emerhor.

NBC urges DSTV not to air transgender series, 'I am Jazz'

The National Broadcasting Commission has urged Multichoice, the parent company of DSTV, not to air a programme titled "I am Jazz" which is set to air on TLC channel soon. In a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs of the NBC, Mr. Awwalu Salihu, the commission explained that the programme is about a transgender child.  

The NBC said the programme is capable of corrupting the youths as it is also at variance with Nigerian law which prohibits homesexuality. The statement added,


Lagos to purchase 3 helicopters to battle crime and tackle traffic

Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday said that his administration has concluded plans to purchase three helicopters next month to enable security agencies tackle criminal activities from the air as well assist in monitoring traffic gridlock to ease movement across the metropolis.

Ambode made the disclosure while speaking as a guest on a popular radio programme, Soni Irabor Live (SIL) on Inspiration FM.
