NFF pays $2000 each to Super Eagles players for Chan Qualification

Each member of the home - based Super Eagles will be paid $2,000 as bonus for qualifying for the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda. Though the squad was entitled to $1,000 per player after drawing against Burkina Faso on Sunday evening, the Nigeria Football Federation approved that the players should be paid the extra sum as qualification bonus.

The Nigeria delegation arrived in Port Harcourt on Monday morning at around 1:15 am aboard an Arik Air. 14 countries-  including four from West Africa Nigeria, Guinea, Mali and Niger Republic - have booked their tickets to Rwanda following the matches that took place this past weekend.

Lewis Hamilton wins his third F1 world championship

Lewis Hamilton could not hold back tears as he hailed what he says is the 'greatest moment of my life'. The 30-year-old was reduced to tears as he became Britain’s most successful racing driver by securing this season’s championship with a win in the US Grand Prix yesterday evening. He is only the second British driver after Sir Jackie Stewart to achieve the feat. 

Fellow Briton Elton John even celebrated with Lewis Hamilton on the podium and the pair pledged to party through the night together. Congrats to him...

Tribunal sacks Wike as Rivers governor, orders rerun

The Rivers state election petition tribunal sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers state today nullified Governor Nyesom Wike's election. The tribunal led by Justice Ambusa said the April 11 2015 election which brought Wike to power was marred by election fraud and violence. He ordered for a rerun election. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described Saturday’s judgement of the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that overturned the election of Gov. Nyesom Wike of the PDP as a deadly body blow to impunity and hooliganism. In a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the judgement has shown clearly that the era of impunity and hooliganism is over, and that the only way for elections to have legitimacy is for them to be free, fair and credible.

Media aide to Gov Wike survives assassination attempt

Mr Opunabo Nko-Tariah, who is the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Nyesom Wike, on thursday night escaped assassination attempt on his life.
The media aide told newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday that unknown gunmen opened fire on his vehicle at Israel Ama bridge in Asari Toru local government area and said he was still in awe at how he survived the shooting.

The young man, who is believed to be a student of the school, was shot dead at the university front gate yesterday by suspected cultists. They pursued him to the gate where he was gunned down and the gunmen fled. His body has since been taken away. See the pic after the cut..


‎Last of Yoruba 'horrible' twins (Ibeji Oran), Taiwo Osuolale has died

If you watch Yoruba movies, then you must be very familiar with them. After one year of his twin brother's passing, the other brother of Yoruba actors popular known as 'Ibeji Oran' has died. According to a source, Taiwo died a few days ago and has been buried in his house at Owode along Ilesa, Osun State.

His twin brother, Kehinde died exactly one year ago, in October 2014. Both twins who starred in a popular Yoruba film 'Ide' were in their early 40's. He is survived by a daughter born to him by his ex-wife, Folake. May their souls rest in peace, amen.

Aurora movie theater shooter, James Holmes, assaulted in prison

The Colorado Department of Corrections has confirmed that an inmate , 27 year old Mark "Slim" Daniels,assaulted theater shooter James Holmes and a security officer in the highest security prison in the state.

Holmes was not injured, officials say but Daniels will be charged with assault on a correctional officer & an assault on Holmes, said Adrienne Jacobson, spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Corrections.

Petrol price to come down - VP Osinbajo

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo says that the government is working to reduce the price of petroleum products by encouraging and working with private refineries and reducing importation. Osinbajo, who is in the UK to sign the Nigeria-UK solar energy agreement, told Bloomberg in an interview...
"We are going to be unbundling the NNPC so that its various components are effective core centres and are able to do their business well. We are going to have private refineries at the site of the old refineries, so they can benefit from the available infrastructure. So, we think that in the medium term, we would be able to get cheaper pump price, pump price of oil would be cheaper because we would be importing far less refined petroleum. A lot of that will be produced locally.
